Sri Lanka bat against India in second Test - Watch Live Online

Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and elected to bat in the second cricket Test against India at the Sinhalese Sports Club on Monday.

India, trailing 1-0 in the three-match series, suffered twin blows when opener Gautam Gambhir and middle-order batsman Yuvraj were ruled out of the key match.

Gambhir has a knee injury, while Yuvraj developed high fever overnight.

The duo will be replaced by left-hand batsman Suresh Raina, making his Test debut after playing 98 one-day internationals, and opener Murali Vijay.

Sri Lanka changed the entire frontline bowling attack that won them the first Test in Galle on 10 wickets.

With Muttiah Muralitharan now retired and fast bowler Lasith Malinga injured, Sri Lanka replaced them with spinner Ajantha Fernando and Dilhara Fernando.

Also out were left-arm spinner Rangana Herath and seamer Chanaka Welegedara. Their places went to debutant off-spinner Suraj Randiv and fast bowler Dammika Prasad.

India: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt), Virender Sehwag, Murali Vijay, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Venkatsai Laxman, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Pragyan Ojha, Abhimanyu Mithun, Ishant Sharma.

Sri Lanka: Kumar Sangakkara (capt), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Tharanga Paranavitana, Mahela Jayawardene, Thilan Samaraweera, Angelo Mathews, Prasanna Jayawardene, Ajantha Mendis, Dilhara Fernando, Suraj Randiv, Dammika Prasad.

Sri Lanka make solid start in first India Test

Hosts Sri Lanka made an impressive start in the first cricket Test against India on Sunday, racing to 91 for one by lunch on the opening day.

Opener Tharanga Paranavitana was unbeaten on 35 and skipper Kumar Sangakkara, who won the toss and elected to take first strike, was on 25 at the break.

Paranavitana and his opening partner Tillakaratne Dilshan enjoyed the good batting conditions at the Galle International Stadium by smashing 55 runs in 10 overs.

India's new seamer Abhimanyu Mithun, showing no signs of nerves on his Test debut, escaped the onslaught by conceding just six runs from his first four overs.

Mithun, a 20-year-old right-arm seamer from Karnataka, was rewarded for his steady bowling when Dilshan edged a pull shot to Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni behind the stumps.

Dilshan, who hit six fours in his 25 off 24 balls, appeared to indicate the ball went off his elbow to the wicket-keeper.

Left-hander Paranavitana has so far hit six boundaries, taking a heavy toll on seamer Ishant Sharma, who went for 41 runs in his first five overs.

Some 15,000 home fans were on hand to watch the final Test appearance for world bowling record holder Muttiah Muralitharan, who needs eight more scalps to reach the 800-wicket mark.

The start was delayed by 30 minutes due to a wet outfield caused by heavy overnight rain. Bad weather has been forecast on all five days of the Test.

Mithun was handed his Test cap to partner Sharma with the new ball in the absence of the injured duo Zaheer Khan and Shanthakumaran Sreesanth.

BCCI re-schedules Australia tour

The Indian Cricket Board has revised the schedule of the upcoming home tour of Australia but the re-jigged dates continue to clash with October's Commonwealth Games here.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had sought Sports Ministry's intervention in pursuing the BCCI to change the dates of the tour to avoid a clash with the Games.

However, the Board had said that they have not been approached by anyone for any change.

According to the revised itinerary, the two Test matches against Australia have been advanced by one day each.

The first Test will now be held from October 1 in Mohali and second from October 9 in Bangalore.

The dates of the One-day series have also been changed.

The first ODI will be played on October 17 in Kochi and second on October 20 in Vizag.

The third ODI will be played on October 24 in Goa.

The BCCI also released the schedule of the New Zealand home tour, which will begin with the first Test from November 4 in Ahmedabad.

The second Test will be played from November 12-16 in Kanpur while the third and final Test is scheduled for Nagpur from November 20-24.

A five-match ODI series will be played after the three- match Test series.

ODI Schedule:

1st ODI on November 28 in Guwahati.

2nd ODI on December 1 in Mohali.

3rd ODI on December 4 in Hyderabad.

4th ODI on December 7 in Bangalore

5th ODI on December 10 in Chennai.

FIFA World Cup 2010 : Watch Final Match between Spain and Netherlands | Live Soccer Links

Africa's first World Cup reaches a fitting climax on Sunday when the two most impressive teams, the Netherlands and Spain, meet in what is expected to be a fascinating contest for soccer's biggest prize.

The best games in a World Cup often come in the semi-finals but after a month of soccer of varied quality, these two teams are recognized as being the pick of the bunch technically, tactically and temperamentally.

It is a final of firsts in addition to the location. Neither side has won the World Cup despite their undoubted quality, and Europe will win its first trophy on another continent.

It is Spain's first final and a third for the Dutch, who were runners up in 1974 and 1978.

Germany took third place on Saturday night after an exciting 3-2 victory over Uruguay in rain-swept Port Elizabeth which was far from the frequent anti-climax of the playoff game.

A header from Sami Khedira won the game for Germany with only eight minutes to go after an evenly-matched contest. It was Germany's second successive third place in the World Cup.

Both Spain and the Dutch perfectly illustrate the big lesson of this World Cup -- that the teams who play as units are superior to those that revolved around the fallen pre-tournament favorites like Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney.

The climax of a successful month-long tournament is also a triumph for South Africa who have confounded years of negative foreign reporting predicting it would be a disaster marred by violent crime, chaos and unfinished stadiums.

President Jacob Zuma thanked the nation on Saturday, saying the hosting of the tournament had made them champions despite being the first host country to go out in the group stage.

Zuma thanked his people for remaining passionate audiences despite the early elimination of their team, helping South Africa take third place in overall attendance at more than 3 million, behind the United States in 1994 and Germany in 2006.

SLOW STARTERS

European champions Spain, who started slowly but peaked perfectly to eliminate a talented young German side in the semis, are favorites although they have stuttered in converting midfield skill into goal-mouth punch.

They are the popular choice of many, from kids kicking a ball around in the township of Soweto to the world's press who made them overwhelming favorites according to an online poll by the International Sports Press Association.

But the Netherlands will be tough to beat, with a powerful trio of Dirk Kuyt, Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben to combat Xavi and Andres Iniesta leading Spain's masterful midfield.

The Dutch, despite disappointing their fans with a more defensive approach than the teams of the past, have won all their 14 World Cup games including qualifiers.

Spain tormented the Germans and others with their talent for holding the ball and precise passing even under pressure, but have lacked the killer instinct in front of the net with only seven goals from six matches. Even coach Vicente del Bosque says they are not clinical enough.

Striker Fernando Torres, recently returned from surgery, has yet to score and they have relied heavily on their ruthless hitman David Villa, the tournament's joint top scorer with Sneijder, Uruguay's Diego Forlan and Germany's Thomas Mueller on five goals each.

The Dutch, considered the best team never to have taken the trophy, have been more prolific with 12, but have also seemed to lack the killer instinct at crucial moments.

Spain's fans will be led at the final by Queen Sofia while the Dutch are backed by outgoing Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, among an array of VIPs including 14 African presidents, a king, a prince and an emir.

But the big question, especially for South Africans, will be whether Nelson Mandela, the beloved father of the post-apartheid nation, will attend. Mandela missed the opening ceremony on June 11 after his great grand-daughter died in a car accident the night before.

He is in frail health at the age of 91 and his office rarely gives details of his movements in advance.

If he does attend, it will be seen as the perfect way to cap huge national pride over a successful tournament which has boosted not only this country but the whole of Africa.

Experts and officials say it has rebranded South Africa, boosting racial reconciliation and national unity in a country still troubled by divisions 16 years after the end of apartheid.

Fund managers say the impressive way in which the tournament has been run has already attracted new business and capital into the continent, which is seen as a growing frontier market.

CRICKET | [ENGLAND vs BANGLADESH] | BANGLADESH TO BAT FIRST

It was exactly a month ago that these two teams faced off against each other for the two Tests where England managed to wrap it up 2-0 in a convincing fashion. Both teams have had a few notable changes over the past month. England have shown the world that they are a far more rejuvenated bunch of young men after their recent series win against the Aussies. They haven't looked back ever since they won the T20 World Cup at the Caribbean. The Bangladeshis on the other hand have had a few selection problems of late. Mashrafe Mortaza, Bangladesh's spearhead in the bowling department, has replaced the enthusiastic all-rounder Shakib as the captain of their ODI side.

The first of the three ODIs begin at Trent Bridge in Nottingham and with Pietersen out with an injury, the team management will get a few opportunities to test their bench strength. Dashing top order batsman, Jonathon Trott has earned himself a recall and he will have a thing or two to prove to the selectors. With the likes of Yardy and Bresnan doing well in the limited opportunities that they have got so far, the English are better prepared for the 2011 World Cup than their counterparts as they even bat pretty deep.

The wicket at Trent Bridge is believed to be a batting paradise with the highest ODI score here being 391. Interestingly, this game which was played in 2005 featured the same two teams, England and Bangladesh, and the hosts won the game by a massive 168 runs. It is however expected to be overcast and the faster bowlers will have some assistance from the wicket.

The worrying factor for the Bangladesh selectors was the poor form of one of their key players, Mohammad Ashraful and they have taken a tough call on him by excluding the ace middle order batsman from the squad. This will add more responsibilities on the middle order which has been unreliable over the recent past. Spin, as always, will be their strength and the Bangladeshis will be hoping for some change of fortunes under their new captain.

Eoin Morgan has been the spice in the English batting order with some consistent match winning knocks and with the kind of batting line up they possess, England will definitely be a far more fancied side to win the series.

Numbers game:

100: The number of wickets Shakib has taken in ODIs.

159: The number of runs Collingwood needs to score to reach 5000 ODI runs.

Quotes:

"We will try to play good cricket starting from the first match, and that is our first ambition" : Mashrafe Mortaza

"They're a dangerous side, they all play shots, and Tamim Iqbal in particular is very dangerous." : Andrew Strauss

[Pakistan vs Bangladesh Asia Cup] : Preview

With no avenues available for them to make it to the final after having lost 2 matches each, Pakistan and Bangladesh have only pride to play for when they take on each other in an inconsequential tie. While an energetic Pakistan went down fighting in both their matches, Bangladesh have been anything but impressive in their encounters against India and Sri Lanka.

Pakistan had their chances against Sri Lanka and India. Shahid Afridi produced one of his finest innings in the match against Sri Lanka, scoring a century after 5 years. But it was Malinga five-wicket haul which blew Pakistan away in the end. In the match against India, valuable contributions from Salman Butt and Kamran Akmal helped Pakistan post a competitive total. But failure to hold onto important catches and some shoddy bit of fielding resulted in their ouster from the tournament.

Failure on the part of the youngsters to perform on the big stage could be attributed as one of the main reasons for Pakistan's defeats. Umar Amin, who got a chance to prove his mettle, let the team down with scores such as 7 and 3 against Sri Lanka and India respectively. Umar Akmal had a couple of good starts but could not convert that into fruitful contributions. Salman Butt let his team down against Sri Lanka, getting out for a duck, but made up for the loss by scoring well against his favourite team India.

When it comes to bowling, Pakistan have always been known to field one of the best bowling attacks. With the likes of Akthar, Asif and Aamer in the pace department and Ajmal, Afridi and Malik manning the spin section, Pakistan had the best combination to make full use of the conditions. However, that was not to be as the bowlers performed only in patches and were unable to fire as a whole unit.

While Shahid Afridi attributed the lack-lusture performance of the youngsters as a reason for the team's failure, he did mention that Pakistan would field a team containing youngsters in the match against Bangladesh, giving them another opportunity to prove their worthiness. This means, some of the senior players like Shoaib Akthar and Abdul Razzaq would be given a rest.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, have been very ordinary in their endeavours in the Asia Cup. Although the openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes provided the impetus at the top of the order, the middle order let them down miserably, failing to capitalize on the solid starts. The batsmen, who were found wanting against spin in both New Zealand and England, seem to have the same problem in Sri Lanka. Their inability to handle spin has been to such an extent that they were left under the mercy of part-timers like Sehwag and Dilshan.

The biggest letdown in the middle order for Bangladesh is Mohammad Ashraful. For an extremely talented batsman, Ashraful is woefully out of form. He needs to put in a lot of work to try and regain his touch because his role in the scheme of things for Bangladesh is already on question and the countdown has begun for the right-hander.

In the bowling department, only Shafiul Islam seemed capable of troubling the opposition batsmen. The likes of Mashrafee Mortaza and Syed Rasel failed to deliver when Bangladesh needed them the most. Captain Shakib Al Hasan has had a couple of decent performances with the ball, but he will expect the new-ball bowlers to pitch in with some contributions.

Bangladesh have to sort out their middle order problems if they seek to avoid a third-successive defeat in the 2010 edition of the Asia Cup, against a wounded Pakistan, who would be looking to avenge their loss to arch-rivals India by trampling Bangladesh.

Quotes:

We want Akthar to be part of the 2011 World Cup team. So we will conserve through the rest of the year and ensure that he stays fit for the big event. We will rest him along with some senior players for the match against Bangladesh. I am not happy with the way Umar Amin and other youngsters have performed. They will have to improve. They can only do that through experience. It will be a good opportunity for them to make some runs: Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi

We struggled in England when Swann spun the ball. Vettori always troubles us when it is spinning. But we are fine when the ball is not spinning. As soon as it turns a little we have problems. It could be due to lack of footwork or poor decision-making. Ashraful is out of form for a while. But he is not on his own. A lot of other players have let us down in the last two-three games: Bangladesh coach Jamie Siddons

SRI LANKA vs BANGLADESH | ASIA cup | Preview Report | Watch Live Actions

Last Time defending champions of Asia Cup Sri-Lanka will go forward to crush a less experienced Bangladesh and enhance their chances of making the Asia Cup final in the next clash.

4-time champions Sri-Lanka,who have defeated the Pakistan by 16 runs in their first clash of the tournament, one more victory will assure their place in the final to be played on 24 June

While for Bangladesh, tomorrow's clash has become a do-or-die contest as they are to be on field after the 6 wicket defeat from India in their last match and one more bad day will pull them out of the biggest sub-continent Cricket Tournament

On the ohter hand, Sri-Lanka is playing on their own land, with this advantage they will be hardly troubled by B''desh Team Players

Lankan bowlers, especially pace-man Lasith Malinga is in superb form and a stable batting line up makes them an outright favourite against the Asian Counterparts.

Muralitharan loose days are continuing and is a matter of worry for the Hosting team

Lanka could also possibly make a substitute for Farveez Maharoof who looked far from impressive in his comeback.

These are the few issues to resolved for K. Sanghakara but the opposition captain has lot to do to let his boy called to play as unit

"We played well as individuals but not as a team. That is an area we need to improve on a lot," was the word of Shakib after Bangladesh's six-wicket defeat against India.

"We need to climb one step ahead and put team performances together, only then can we win some games. That is the main area we have to concentrate on.", he added. Certainly, Bangladesh must be unit to give a challenge of a good level to Sri-Lanka in upcoming clash.
